Gang Land Column
By Jerry Capeci
Fan mail from jail
Let's dip into the mailbag for a
good-natured complaint we got last week from an apparantly
faithful reader in Marion, Illinois.
The letter came from the federal penitentiary there and was
handwritten by the leader of the Colombo crime family, a man who
once sat on the Mafia's ruling Commission. It seems he picked up
an error in our report about the Chistmas parties hosted by John
Gotti and others.
"Hello Jerry," the letter opened.
"Hey, I thought we were alright. So why are you making
me older than I am? You made me 57 years old. I am only 55 and
will be 56 on Aug. 8. Don't rush these years past me. I'll need
my youth to be able to finish this 100 years I have to do. And if
you keep treating me bad and making these mistakes about me I'll
have to start reading Pete Hamill's column. And you won't be the
famous Jerry Capeci in my book anymore."
