Lewis Kasman's Bad Karma |
|

Lewis Kasman was a shrewd confidential informant. He gave the FBI secret stuff about John Gotti that kept the Mafia boss in solitary confinement until his death in 2002, earning himself a pass for crimes he committed along the way, along with some $51,000 in cash.
But Kasman may have been the world’s dumbest cooperating witness. Most informers go that route and agree to testify publicly in order to get out of a major legal jam of some kind. Not Kasman.
He used his new gig to get into legal trouble.
Gotti’s self-described “adopted son” didn’t have a single criminal charge pending against him when he became a cooperating witness in 2005. By last year, though, Kasman was headed behind bars for bone-headed moves he made while wearing a wire for the FBI, including making a phone call to a wiretapped phone to tip off a buddy that he was under investigation.
